Spider veins are typically removed for aesthetic reasons. Offending veins appear in dark blue or purple color and make us feel self-conscious about wearing certain clothing. If the condition worsens and veins start to cause discomfort or irritability, they may need to be removed for medical purposes. Thankfully, getting rid of spider or veins is easy!
At Derma-Tech Medcial Spa, our go-to treatment for spider and vein removal is sclerotherapy. It’s done in a simple in-office visit and can produce some pretty exceptional outcomes. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons we find sclerotherapy to be the best treatment option for bothersome spider veins.
#1: Quick & Easy Appointments
Sclerotherapy can be done in as little as 15-30 minutes. It’s a process that delivers a specialized solution directly to the offending vein causing it to close and eventually die off. Your skincare provider will assess your concerns, mark the treatment area, and begin the injection process.
#2: Improvement After 1-Session
The great thing about sclerotherapy is the ability to see significant improvement after just one treatment. Depending on the size of the treated veins, you’ll start to see results in as little as 2-weeks. Smaller spider veins will gradually fade over the course of 3-6 weeks.
Although a single appointment can produce exceptional outcomes for most, you may need anywhere from 2- 4 treatments for maximum efficacy.
#3: Long-Lasting Results
Once bothersome veins are treated, they’re typically unable to return on their own. However, sclerotherapy cannot prevent future veins from becoming an issue. So while sclerotherapy is considered a permanent solution, results can be temporary for some. Many patients are happy with the results of their spider vein treatment for years to come.
Touch-up sclerotherapy sessions are safe and effective as needed to address newly-formed spider or varicose veins.
#4: Minimal Downtime
There is little to no downtime associated with sclerotherapy treatments. In most cases, you’ll be able to go about your normal day-to-day routine immediately. Compression stockings or garment should be worn round-the-clock for at least 24-48 hours following your in-office procedure. Otherwise, restrictions are minimal.
Side effects from sclerotherapy are typically mild and short-lived. You may experience redness, itchiness, tenderness, or bruising at or around the injection site. Talk to your provider if more severe concerns occur.
